It was truly an honour for us to design this catalogue. A 280-page publication showcasing Honoré Daumier’s work and accompanying the major exhibition at the Albertina.
Honoré Daumier (1808–1879) was a painter, sculptor, graphic artist and caricaturist, and is regarded as one of France’s most significant political satirists and caricaturists.
Daumier was a sharp critic and observer of his time, and the relevance of his work is more topical than ever. The use of a deep red colour for design elements emphasises this topicality and the power of Daumier’s work. Alongside these design highlights, the book’s layout creates a calm space to present Daumier’s oeuvre, which captivates through details and messages. Zoom-ins offer the opportunity to study in detail the linework and expressiveness of the mostly small-format drawings, lithographs and woodcuts.
The exhibition design takes up elements of the book design and lends the exhibition an intense presence.
The publication is available in German and English; typefaces by blaze type.
